Elastomeric Solutions for Frame-type Cell Spacers

Prismatic Li-ion cells are favored when high energy density, structural rigidity and space efficiency are required. Their rectangular form supports cell-to-pack and cell-to-chassis designs, but stack tolerance and breathing (expansion/contraction) must be managed. A frame-type gasket solves this by accommodating thickness variation while maintaining the required separation and compliance.

Why Rogers BISCO® & PORON® for frame gaskets

  • Broad firmness window: from 3 Shore OO to 70 Shore A to tune compression and compliance.

  • Flammability performance: portfolio coverage up to UL94 V-0 (BISCO® silicone); PORON® polyurethane UL94 HBF for superior compliance.

  • Dielectric robustness: > 4000 V dielectric strength for most products — valuable near high-voltage components.

  • Designed for prismatic stacks: materials that absorb tolerance build-up while allowing cells to expand and contract.

Material options

bisco

BISCO® Silicone (UL94 V-0):

HT-6360(solid), HT-800 (foam) — suited where flame rating V-0 and stable mechanical support are required.

bisco

PORON® Polyurethane (UL94 HBF):

PORON® EVExtend® 43 & 71 — soft, highly compliant foams to cushion cells and accommodate breathing.

poron

NEW PORON® Polyurethane (UL94 V0):

PORON® 4701-40V0 very soft, highly compliant foams to cushion cells and accommodate breathing.

Technical benefits

  • Safety & compliance: choose V-0 silicone or V0 and HBF polyurethane according to the module’s flame requirements.

  • Electrical insulation: high dielectric strength for spacer frames around HV regions.

  • Compression control: wide firmness/compressibility range to manage stack tolerance and cell expansion.

  • System integration: materials, thicknesses and frame geometries adaptable to cell-to-pack/chassis architectures.

Application ideas

  • Frame-type gaskets between prismatic cells to control spacing and allow breathing.

  • Perimeter sealing/cushioning around cells and busbar areas requiring dielectric separation.

  • Compression pads to mitigate vibration and micro-movement within modules or packs.

Converting & Production at EKO-TECH

We don’t just distribute — we manufacture customer-specific parts from Rogers BISCO® and PORON® to your print.

  • Die-cut & kiss-cut frame gaskets (tight-tolerance windows, inner/outer radii, alignment features).

  • Lamination with qualified pressure-sensitive adhesives and functional films (liners, easy-peel tabs).

  • Material selection & DFM support to balance flammability class (V-0 vs HBF), firmness and target compression.

  • Prototype-to-series scalability, kitting and custom packaging for lean assembly.

(Suitability must be validated in the end-use design; data are typical and do not constitute specification limits — per the bulletin’s note.)

FAQ

Can EKO-TECH produce custom frames with adhesive?2025-10-31T09:56:21+01:00

Yes — we convert BISCO® and PORON® into custom frame gaskets, and can laminate PSAs or films as required for assembly (adhesive system confirmed per application).

Any example grades?2025-10-31T09:54:50+01:00

Yes — BISCO® HT-6360 and HT-800 (UL94 V-0); PORON® EVExtend® 43 and 71 (UL94 HBF).

Is dielectric strength adequate for high-voltage areas?2025-10-31T09:52:43+01:00

Yes — the portfolio shows > 4000 V dielectric strength for most products; final suitability must be confirmed in your design.

What firmness range is available?2025-10-31T09:48:52+01:00

From 3 Shore OO to 70 Shore A, enabling precise tuning of force and compression.

Which materials are recommended?2025-10-31T09:47:15+01:00

Rogers BISCO® silicones (solid or foam) for UL94 V-0, and PORON® polyurethanes for UL94 HBF where higher compliance is desired.

What is a frame-type cell spacer and why is it used?2025-10-31T09:45:43+01:00

A gasket-like frame that sits around prismatic cells to control spacing, absorb stack-up tolerances and allow for cell expansion/contraction in service.
